Cross that bridge to Niterói
One of the closest getaways from the busy streets of Rio is to simply cross the bridge and enjoy a day in Niterói, where you will find most of what Rio has to offer in a lower scaled and slightly more relaxed enviroment.
The most known visitors spot in Niterói would be the MAC, but this side of Guanabara Bay also have more to offer. Here you may enjoy a stroll down the sidewalks embracing the beautiful Icaraí beach or get food and drinks in the busy center for nightlife in São Francisco.

To get there you can go buy bus, crossing the 13 kilometer long bridge connecting the two cities of Rio and Niterói or get on a boat from the terminal in Praca XV.
